Start with the business. Then the keyword.
A practical way to connect search strategy with the outcomes that make a difference.
Define a meaningful action
A search plan needs a business purpose. For a service company, that might be a qualified enquiry. For a retailer, it might be a profitable order. Agree the action, how it will be measured and what makes it valuable before building a keyword list.
Follow the decision journey
People search differently as they move from understanding a problem to comparing providers. Map the questions, service searches and buying concerns to the pages that can answer them best. Each page needs a clear job and a useful next step.
Prioritise with evidence
Combine Search Console impressions and clicks with conversion data, commercial priorities and implementation effort. A high-volume phrase is not automatically the best opportunity. Strong intent and a relevant offer can matter more.
Measure the whole path
Review visibility, qualified traffic and completed actions together. A traffic increase without relevant enquiries may signal an intent or conversion problem. Record changes and compare like-for-like periods before drawing conclusions.
